Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what helps me stay motivated and where I sometimes fall short. I’m curious—what do you do to stay motivated?
For a long time, Audible books were a go-to for me. My goal was to finish two each month, mostly self-development or heartfelt autobiographies that reminded me life is hard for everyone, and we’re all navigating our own storms. But somewhere along the way—between school, life, and everything else—I took almost a six-month break. Not because I didn’t want to listen, but because I was focused elsewhere. Still, I miss how much they inspired me.
Recently, I’ve been using the 3-2-1 Method by Mel Robbins. When I’m overthinking or stalling—especially with tasks I dread—I just count down “3…2…1…” and do the thing. It’s not magic, but it helps. No excuses, no distractions, just action.
Staying consistent with workouts has also been a struggle. I try. I really try. Incline walks, weight training, fasting, supplements—all part of my PCOS management. But it’s frustrating when you don’t see visible changes. Some days I feel strong and empowered. Other days, I feel like my effort isn’t enough. But I keep going, because my health is worth it. My peace is worth it.
Other things that help me stay grounded and motivated:
Red light therapy and sauna sessions
Gratitude journaling
Regular therapy
Prayer and meditation
And, when I’m really struggling—Christian music. It reminds me of how far I’ve come and where I’m headed.
I don’t check all the “church girl” boxes. I cuss, I’ve been through addiction, I’ve lived quite a messy life but I believe deeply. I manifest. I pray. I show gratitude for the things even before I know are coming. My faith is strong even if it doesn’t look “traditional.” And I know that God knows my heart.
For me, motivation isn’t always loud or exciting. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s crying through something listening to worship music. Sometimes it’s making a to-do list just to feel in control again. Sometimes it’s reminding myself that while others are fighting invisible battles, my own battles and struggles are valid too—and I’ve survived every single one so far and I’ve just got to keep pushing.
So, if you’re feeling stuck, uninspired, or just tired—know you’re not alone.
